Empowering Energy with Precision Transformer Testing
Power transformers are essential at the highest levels of the energy chain. They enable the interconnection of systems operating at different voltage levels, stepping up voltage for efficient long-distance transmission from power plants, and stepping it down as electricity approaches populated areas. These transformers are critical in the generation and transmission phases, forming the backbone of national and international power networks.
As electricity nears its final destination, distribution transformers take over. Their job is to “step down” the high-voltage electricity from transmission lines to a safer, lower voltage suitable for everyday use in homes, businesses, and industries. Without them, the energy that lights our cities, powers our industries, and fuels our digital lives would be unusable and dangerous.
In industrial environments—such as manufacturing plants, oil and gas facilities, mining operations, and data centers—distribution transformers are at the heart of operations. They feed power to heavy machinery, control systems, and critical infrastructure, ensuring smooth and efficient performance. A single fault in power delivery can lead to costly downtime, safety hazards, or data loss, making the reliability of these transformers absolutely essential.
At KEMA Labs , we support the entire lifecycle of both power and distribution transformers.
We conduct rigorous testing up to the highest voltage and power ratings in use today, in accordance with international standards such as IEC 60076 for oil-filled transformers, IEC 60076-11 for cast resin transformers, and ANSI C57.12. Our advanced high-power and high-voltage laboratories are equipped to perform complete type testing, including demanding short-time current tests. We also offer on-site testing for even the largest transformers, including those transported by barge to remote installation sites.
Together, power and distribution transformers form a seamless chain that brings energy from its source to its point of use—safely, efficiently, and reliably.
